Stephen Gough

Visiting Professor of Diabetes

Professor Gough is a clinical diabetologist with interests in diabetes antenatal care, and both islet and whole organ pancreas transplantation.  His clinical interests link closely with his translational research interests which include studies of glucose homeostasis with specific projects focusing on the regulation of insulin and glucagon, using glucose clamps, and incretin profiling of subjects undergoing islet and whole organ pancreas transplantation. To further explore novel agents that may ultimately have a therapeutic role in the regulation of glucose, Professor Gough is involved in studies evaluating the effect of human recombinant adiponectin on insulin and glucagon secretion, is Principal Investigator on a number of phase III clinical trials in diabetes:  and leads an investigator initiated mechanistic study examining GLP-1 based therapy as an adjunct to insulin treatment in type 1 diabetes with and without residual beta cell function.
