About CV Med
Our approach
We investigate the full spectrum of mechanisms that drive cardiovascular disease, using these insights to advance translational research from molecular discovery to clinical application.
Our work is highly interdisciplinary, bringing together cardiovascular scientists and clinician–scientists alongside experts in medicinal chemistry, physics, computer science, data science and statistics.
Our structure
We are a multi-site division. Our administrative base is located in the John Radcliffe Hospital West Wing.
Clinical research is centred at the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research (OCMR), the Acute Multidisciplinary Imaging and Interventional Centre (AMIIC) and the Cardiovascular Clinical Research Facility (CCRF).
Programmes focusing on molecular and cellular mechanisms of disease, including molecular genetics and model organism studies, are based at the Centre for Human Genetics (CHG) and in the John Radcliffe Hospital West Wing.
Partnerships
We have a long-standing partnership with the British Heart Foundation and play a central role in Oxford's BHF Centre of Research Excellence and the MRC/BHF Centre of Research Excellence for Advanced Cardiovascular Therapies (REACT). The BHF CureHeart programme strives to develop cures for inherited cardiomyopathies using advanced genetic therapies.
We also collaborate closely with the Clinical Trials Service Unit (CTSU) and with cardiovascular researchers across the University of Oxford Science Area.
Recognising that many disease mechanisms extend across organ systems, we actively build collaborations with colleagues in haematology, diabetology, hepatology and related fields.
