In this section you will find out about how we support patient and public involvement and engagement in our research, and how to get involved in our current studies.

A researcher talks to a participant

Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) is essential to our cardiovascular research. It ensures that our studies reflect the real needs of the people they are designed to benefit. By involving patients and members of the public who have a lived experience of heart and circulatory conditions, and who have interest in shaping research, we gain valuable insight into what really matters to those affected, as well as the practical challenges of taking part in research.

As an ex-patient and research advocate, being part of the PPIE team means directly impacting the patient experience of research, which has felt like an important privilege. - PPIE group member

We involve patients and the public from the very beginning of the research journey; reviewing study materials and ethical considerations, through to contributing to the interpretation and communication of the research results. This input helps us to develop research questions, outcomes, and study designs that are more meaningful to participants. As a result, we see improved recruitment, better participant retention, and more reliable findings.
