Funding options
The Department is able to offer a number of funded studentships which provide full funding at a generous level for basic scientists. Funded studentships cover the full fee liability and provide a stipend for the duration of the DPhil.
Applications for the MSc by Research in Medical Sciences received by 1 December will automatically be considered in the competition for funding if the applicant meets the eligibility criteria. Applications received after the December deadline can only be considered for unfunded offers.
RDM Scholars Programme
Our flagship funding programme provides a number of fully-funded scholarships for doctoral and masters students. The RDM Scholars Programme combines funding from a variety of sources, including departmental funding, the Medical Research Council and the Clarendon Fund.
The programme is open to any outstanding candidates.
The RDM Scholars Programme is advertised each September for students who want to start the following October.
Other funding opportunities
Applications received by the December deadline are automatically considered for other scholarships available via the University. There is no separate scholarship application process or extra supporting documentation required for the majority of Oxford studentships. Based on the information supplied in your graduate application, you will be automatically considered for scholarships where you meet the eligibility criteria.
Further information about the wide range of scholarships offered by the University, including the Academic Futures scholarship programmes and funding for under-represented groups, can be found on the University website.
However, there are some funded studentships available via the University for which separate applications must be made. These can be identified by referring to the University's A-Z of Scholarships.
RDM makes both funded and unfunded offers. Applicants are advised to research and apply for potential sources of funding in advance of the RDM selection process and not rely on being awarded a funded Scholarship through the RDM funding competition.
