Samantha Gurumurthy
BSc (Hons), MSc
DPhil Student
I am a DPhil student in Medical Sciences with a keen interest in translational research and the applications of biotechnologies in fundamental science. I graduated with a First-Class Honours in Biomedical Sciences from University College London, and hold a Masters in Molecular Medicine from Imperial College London, where I was awarded the Faculty of Medicine Dean's Prize for ranking top of my cohort.
My DPhil research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying atrial fibrillation and cardiac fibrosis. Specifically, my work focuses on investigating the role of disease-specific microRNAs with the aim to identify novel therapeutic targets.
My broader research interests include the applications of AI in clinical medicine and drug discovery, as well as the use of stem cells as models of disease.
