Charis Antoniades and Qiang Zhang

Professor Charalambos Antoniades and Associate Professor Qiang Zhang have been appointed as RDM's Cross-Cutting Research Theme Leads for our new theme, AI and Medical Big Data.

This new theme will enable us to collaborate within RDM and across Oxford to use AI to advance the prevention, precision diagnosis and targeted treatment of disease.
- Charalambos Antoniades

RDM's cross-cutting research themes represent research priorities that the Department coalesces around in order to support strategic planning, investment and delivery of our research strategy.

AI research relies on three pillars: computational power (infrastructure), data power (volume of datasets) and expertise (human resources). This cross-cutting research theme will bring together RDM's existing strengths of very big and original healthcare data, and strong biomedical/clinical expertise.

We will identify any gaps, and suggest strategies to bridge these gaps to deliver a world-class multidisciplinary research programme across a wide range of medical areas (such as cardiovascular, metabolic, molecular and cellular medicine).
