RDM, in line with the University, fosters an inclusive culture which promotes equality, values diversity and maintains a working, learning and social environment in which the rights and dignity of all its staff and students are respected.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policies are set at an institutional level but implementation takes place at departmental level. Members of RDM work with colleagues on both institutional committees and local working groups to ensure policies are translated into best practice.

ATHENA SWAN IN RDM

Athena Swan is a UK-wide initiative to promote gender equality. RDM was awarded a Silver Athena Swan award in April 2016, 2019 and 2024. Download our 2024 Athena Swan Application.

The Athena Swan Silver award is in recognition of the fact that we are working on a number of fronts to improve recruitment, induction, career development, support for carers, and creating a supportive, friendly and open workplace culture. Our focus is to make RDM an exceptional place to work and study.

Respectful behaviours framework

Members of RDM developed the RDM Respectful Behaviours Framework collaboratively and launched it in 2021. It supplements University policies on anti-bullying and harassment.
