Career Development in RDM
We want to ensure that RDM is a happy and rewarding environment where all staff and students are supported to achieve their full potential.
RDM champions career development by raising awareness of career opportunities and providing or signposting training and support.
Career Development Committee
RDM's Career Development Committee meets at least once per term. It supports the career development of staff and students across the department and helps to promote relevant opportunities, training and events.
Development and training
All RDM staff are entitled to 10 days of professional development (pro rata) each year. These days allow time away from day-to-day work to focus on development, build skills and support progression in a current role and/or a future career.
It is also mandatory for all staff to complete an annual Professional Development Review (PDR). PDRs provide an opportunity to review performance and engagement in the role, identify development and training needs, and discuss workload and wellbeing. They can also include conversations about future career ambitions.
Researcher career development
RDM is committed to supporting researchers in their career development. Our approach aligns with the University's Charter for the Career Development of Researchers. We also offer additional support via the RDM Intermediate Fellowship Framework and through peer support networks such as RDM's Researcher Association.
RDM mentoring scheme
Mentoring is a powerful personal development tool, proven to be an effective way of helping you to progress in your career and life more generally. RDM has been running a mentoring scheme since 2014. The scheme helps staff and students to achieve personal and professional growth. Further details about the RDM Mentoring Scheme are available (SSO required).
