The Ramsay Postgraduate Scholarship is a prestigious Australian scholarship for students pioneering in excellence in academics and who are committed to bringing about transformational change in the community.

Nicholas completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at The University of Adelaide on an undergraduate academic scholarship. He achieved First Class Honours for his research project on atrial fibrillation in Indigenous Australians, which was also awarded a national research prize by the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Nicholas has completed his cardiology specialist training and plans to subspecialise as a structural cardiologist with expertise in advanced cardiac imaging. Under the guidance of supervisors Professors Betty Raman, Charalambos Antoniades and Stefan Neubauer, his research project will use artificial intelligence and machine learning to develop novel methods to detect cardiomyopathies on cardiac CT.

Nicholas said: 'This project would not be possible without the world-class expertise of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and access to their exceptional ORFAN registry database.'
