From molecules to medicines for failing hearts.

Led by Dr Andrew Lewis, we are an interdisciplinary team harnessing the power of imaging across spatial scales to understand and treat human heart disease.

Our research spans from molecular events within individual cells to comprehensive whole-heart analysis, offering a unique perspective on how cardiovascular disease develops and progresses. By integrating human cells, tissue samples, and non-invasive imaging of patients and trial participants, we bridge basic science and clinical application thus maximising the translational potential and impact of everything we do.

What we do

We develop and apply advanced imaging techniques across spatial scales to uncover cardiovascular disease mechanisms, identify new therapeutic targets, and detect treatment effects earlier in experimental medicine trials in cafrdiovascular disease. Our current work focuses on metabolic and immunological pathways in heart failure, using state-of-the-art spatial profiling to map disease processes with unprecedented detail. We believe that understanding how these pathways interact, from subcellular compartments to organ-level function, is key to developing more effective translatable treatments.

Our approach

We take a human-first experimental medicine approach, combining single-cell and spatial -omics with deep cardiovascular phenotyping. This allows us to pursue novel target discovery while developing imaging biomarkers that can de-risk and accelerate early-phase clinical trials.
