About us
Our vision is to use science to support a healthier, longer life for all.
Our mission and strategy
Mission
Our mission is to improve health through cross-disciplinary research to understand shared mechanisms of disease and to accelerate the transition from scientific discovery to clinical care.
Strategy
We will maximise our research impact by:
- building on cross-disciplinary opportunities
- attracting funding to develop our state-of the-art facilities
- ensuring an environment that supports our exceptional people.
Our research and its impact
Our research
We focus on two broad areas: Cardiovascular & Metabolic Medicine, and Molecular Medicine. These are linked by cross-cutting research themes to facilitate collaborative working.
Our impact
Since 2010, 18 spinout companies have been founded or co-founded by members of RDM. This ultimately turns discoveries into patient benefit.
Our ethos
We foster an inclusive culture and work to ensure that RDM is a happy and rewarding environment where all staff and students are supported to achieve their full potential.
Our structure
Cross-RDM
The Cross-RDM Professional Services Team supports senior leaders and PIs with strategic initiatives and departmental planning and budgeting.
CV Med
The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine investigates what underlies cardiovascular disease, and focuses on finding treatments.
IMD
The Investigative Medicine Division translates innovative science into patient benefit across a range of disease areas.
NDCLS
The Nuffield Division of Clinical Laboratory Sciences studies the pathology of human disease from the molecular to systems level, and translates findings into treatments.
OCDEM
The Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism enhances understanding of disease and accelerates the search for new treatments and cures.
WIMM
The MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine improves understanding, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of human diseases.
