The main purpose of the OxVALVE study is to identify people with previously undiagnosed Valvular Heart Disease (VHD), and hence to establish its prevalence within the population.

Participation was by referral from a number of GP practices in the Oxfordshire area.

Participants over the age of 65 years, with no previous history of Valvular Heart Disease, were eligible for recruitment to phase one of the study which is now closed to new participants.

Phase two launched Winter 2016 to perform five year follow-up reviews for existing participants.
