The title of Professor of Practice has been conferred upon Meghana Pandit and Sue Pavord, in the recent University Recognition of Distinction exercise.

The conferment of the title of Professor Practice on clinicians recognises individuals' achievements and contributions. It is intended to help strengthen the links between clinical practice and academic medicine. This will ensure that advances in research improve patient care, and that the realities of practice inform research.

Professor Meghana Pandit

Meghana Pandit is Professor of Practice in Leadership and Management. She is Chief Executive Officer of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, have recently returned from a secondment to NHS England.

Commenting on her appointment, Professor Pandit said: 'I am delighted that the University has recognised my work in leadership and management over many years, in the NHS. Above all, this will inspire and motivate generations of healthcare professionals not only to learn and apply management theory but also to lead in uncertain and volatile environments with courage, compassion and candour.'

Professor Sue Pavord

Sue Pavord is Professor of Practice in Medical Haematology. She is is Consultant Haematologist at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Associate Senior Lecturer in Clinical Medicine at St Edmund Hall.

Commenting on her appointment, Professor Pavord said: 'I am delighted to have been appointed Professor of Practice. Throughout my consultant career, I have practised across the subspecialties of medical haematology and held several leadership roles, including President of the British Society for Haematology. These experiences have given me a broad perspective on the specialty and will help me champion the cause of haematology and act as an ambassador for the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Oxford. 

'I will continue to work collaboratively with colleagues, bridging both organisations to advance excellence in patient care, education and research, and to contribute to the continued development of medical haematology in Oxford. I will undertake this role with pride and energy.'

Professor Keith Channon, Head of the Radcliffe Department of Medicine, said: 'We're delighted that two such eminent individuals have been recognised in this way, and look forward to working with them more closely in RDM in the future.'
