Congratulations to the Institute's Green Impact team, who achieved Gold in the University of Oxford's 2026 Green Impact awards.

The MRC WIMM Green Impact team with the Gold Green Impact award.

Green Impact is an award-winning programme that breaks down the often complex world of sustainability into practical steps that staff and students can take to improve sustainable practice within their building, department or college. The University of Oxford's Green Impact programme is tailored to align with the University’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

This year (2025/26) marks the first time the Institute has participated in the scheme, and the team (pictured above) successfully achieved Gold status, out of a possible Bronze, Silver, Gold or Beyond Gold accreditation.

Initiatives undertaken by the team as part of the Green Impact toolkit included improving and standardising sustainability signage throughout the building, surveying travel to and from work, reviewing trends in energy consumption over recent years to understand where further savings might be made and hosting a plant and seed swap in the coffee lounge. There was also a focus on sustainability in the annual catering review for the WIMM Cafe, where many menu options were already vegetarian or vegan and various sustainable swaps have been made, such as cans replacing plastic bottles.

This achievement highlights the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine's continued commitment to improving sustainability at the Institute.

Institute members can learn more about sustainability at the WIMM on the Sustainability Intranet pages (SSO required).
