Boring old history
In cardiovascular MRI since 1990, was lucky to be involved in the mobile cardiac MRI in a 2nd-hand express coach (Steve Collins, Ray Hughes, Elisabeth Burman, David Gilderdale, RBH Estates Department, Professors Yang, Keegan, Pennell, Firmin and Longmore, CORDA charity, Royal Brompton Hospital London, Surrey Medical Imaging Systems, Tesla Engineering and Magnex, see Science Museum vehicle collection). I learned deep understanding of the electronics of MRI, by smoke and sparks, as well as modifying MRI systems nearby for cardiac MRI. None of this allowed now, luckily nobody got hurt. Ultra-short TE imaging (Prof Graeme Bydder) was of great interest hoping to measure diffuse fibrosis in myocardium. Echo-planar and spiral flow imaging in the heart was my first interest. I learn more cardiovascular MRI most days. I try to do realistic ideas.
Current
I work on many bits of cardiovascular MRI on standard manufacturer systems by Picker, Siemens and GE, where superb software-control of most aspects enables lots of new ideas. Although many regard 1H CMR at 1.5T and 3T as "done", there are things to improve for better use for patients.
Vacation/Undergrad projects
Students over 18 interested in the physics of 1H cardiovascular MRI: we have a lot of interesting things we never get to do, not just to draw lots of boring measurements for us. These are proper physics puzzles we sadly don't have enough time. Vacation work would be unpaid but might if interesting enough lead to publications.
