Erica Appiah

DPhil Student

I am a DPhil student at the Oxford Centre for Magnetic Resonance (OCMR). My research aims to expand on the work within the Liver Investigation: Testing Marker Utility in Steatohepatitis (LITMUS) consortium and Imaging Study to evaluate how biomarkers of metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) change over time and the relationship between changes and clinical outcomes by developing new prognostic models and validating existing ones. Under the supervision of Prof Michael Pavlides and Prof Ladislav Valkovič, I am also evaluating how magnetic resonance biomarkers can be used to assess people with MASLD and how such tools can inform prognostic models for clinical outcomes.

Prior to this I worked on targeting human cytomegalovirus in kidneys prior to transplantation using normothermic machine perfusion, earning an MPhil at the University of Cambridge. My final year undergraduate project was on developing genetic biomarkers for Duchenne muscular dystrophy in zebrafish and that was completed at St George's, University of London.
