Joanna Snowball
NIHR Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow
Joanna is a specialist dietitian working at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She is clinical lead for the Oxford Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre since 2007, managing a caseload of 180 adults and leading on the service for CF related diabetes. In 2021 she undertook a year long NIHR Oxford BRC Preparatory Clinical Academic Fellowship. In 2022 she was awarded a HEE/NIHR funded Pre Doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship affiliated with the Radcliffe Department of Medicine and the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford. Her main academic supervisor is Professor Amanda Adler. Joanna joined DTU as a research associate in June 2022.
Joanna obtained her first-class Master of Nutrition (MNutr) degree from the University of Nottingham in 2005 and has recently undertaken a PGCert in Clinical Research at the University of Plymouth. She has worked in Oxford since qualifying as a dietitian and is currently splitting her time between clinical and academic roles. She is planning a DPhil application in the next few years.
Her research interests are in the metabolic and nutritional effects of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator treatments which have become available in the last 3 years. She has published qualitative work exploring clinicians’ approach to management of overweight and obesity in people with CF.
She is a recipient of the Allied Health Professional of the year at the 2019 OUH staff recognition awards for her work developing the CF diabetes service. She is current co-chair of the European Cystic Fibrosis Nutrition Group and regularly presents at national and international conferences.
