The role of the endothelium in trauma coagulopathy

Nikki Curry studied medicine at Cambridge. After completing her medical and haematology training in London and Oxford, she studied for her MD with Professor Simon Stanworth at NHS Blood & Transplant, Oxford. She is a Consultant Haematologist with a clinical practice in disorders of bleeding and clotting. She takes a particular interest in the care of patients with inherited fibrinogen disorders and the care of women and girls with all forms of inherited bleeding conditions. Her laboratory research focuses on the better understanding of the pathophysiology of trauma coagulopathy and in particular the influence of the endothelium on the evolution of the coagulopathy and the associated bleeding. The aim of her research is to develop to an endothelial model of trauma haemorrhage with a view to improving treatments for major bleeding. 

She Co-chairs the UKHCDO Girls and Women with Bleeding Disorders Working Party and sits on the UKHCDO Musculoskeletal Working Parties; she is a Co-Chair on the ISTH SSC for Fibrinogen and FXIII group; she held the position of NIHR co-lead for haematology for the Thames Valley (2014 - 2024); and is a committee member of the British Society of Haemostasis and Thrombosis and British Society for Haematology Haemostasis Task Force.
