Jhiamluka Solano
British Heart Foundation Research Clinical Training Fellow
After completing my medical degree (MD) at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), I completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine Stage 1 with Health Education England (Northwest, Manchester) and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of London. I subsequently completed a Master's degree in Medical Education at the University of South Wales, where I developed a strong academic interest in the intersection between clinical excellence, medical education, and health systems development.
I am currently a Cardiology Specialty Registrar (ST6) in the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery, pursuing advanced subspecialty training in cardiac imaging and electrophysiology. My research focuses on the use of advanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy to investigate myocardial energetics, exercise physiology, and metabolic adaptation in cardiovascular disease. I am undertaking a DPhil in Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Prof Oliver J. Rider, building on prior work combining cardiopulmonary exercise testing and cardiac magnetic resonance (CPET-CMR) to characterise pathophysiological mechanisms and inform personalised therapy.
Alongside my clinical and research work, I serve as a member of the Council of the Academy of Medical Educators (UK 2024-2026), as the Yorkshire Representative to the Royal College of Physicians' Resident Doctor Committee (2025-2027) and as a sub-editor (2025-2026) for the British Cardiovascular Society. My broader academic interests include the development of hospital learning environments, curriculum innovation in medical training, and the integration of translational cardiovascular research into clinical practice.
