The Radcliffe Department of Medicine is a large multi-disciplinary department with internationally renowned research programmes in a broad range of sciences related to medicine. Research spans the translational research spectrum, from basic biological research through to clinical and population research. In the recent Research Exercise Framework (REF) the University of Oxford ranked top for the overall quality of our submissions in Clinical Medicine.
The Department has a staff complement of over 500 people, an annual research income of around £40 million and approximately 100 postgraduate students, most of whom are studying for a 4 year DPhil (Doctor of Philosophy degree which is the University of Oxford’s equivalent of a PhD).
We are committed to training the next generation of scientists in biological and clinical sciences. We offer a 3-4 year research based DPhil programme, the DPhil in Medical Sciences. Places on the DPhil programme are awarded on the basis of excellence. Students of all nationalities are welcome to apply.
