Nicknamed ‘Why?’ during his years as a student nurse, Tony O’Malley is always asking questions. His quest for explanations is a trait that’s come in handy time and time again in his role as a patient advocate. ony recently won the 2015 Supporter of the Year Gold Award in the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Annual Staff Recognition Awards, a testament to his tireless campaigning to improve patient safety and patient engagement in diabetes care. I caught up with him to learn more about what got him involved in patient advocacy and how we can all work together to improve clinical care.
