With an ageing population, it’s critical that we better understand diseases associated with old age. We have particular strengths in acute stroke research, with a two pronged approach encompassing molecular and clinical aspects to better understand the factors influencing stroke recovery.

The Laboratory of Cerebral Ischemia is a pre-clinical research group aiming to discover both the mechanisms which underlie cell death in stroke and to develop novel strategies to reduce this.

Acute Vascular Imaging Centre

The Acute Vascular Imaging Centre forms a focal point for much of our work associated with ageing and this unique clinical facility enables researchers to probe changes in the heart and brain in response to disease.
