Niklas completed his medical doctorate at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany, where he received the Robert Koch award for the annual best thesis. Since 2020, he pursued clinical training in cardiology at the Heart Center of Charité and the German Heart Institute Berlin.
Niklas' primary research interest lays in advanced imaging modalities and myocardial metabolism in cardiovascular diseases. He received funding by the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research and the German Cardiac Society. Niklas has been honoured with different awards including a nomination to attend the Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting as one of 600 young scientists from around the world.
Since April 2023, Niklas is a Clinical Research Fellow in Cardiovascular Medicine at the Radcliffe Department of Medicine (group of Prof Stefan Neubauer). Here, he uses novel cardiac MRI modalities to improve differentiation and characterization of left-ventricular hypertrophy in a prospective clinical study. An additional focus is to foster the cooperation between the University of Oxford and his home institution via the Oxford Berlin Research Partnership.
