Matthew Kelly

PhD, BMedSci (Hons)

Postdoctoral researcher

My research focuses on cardiac metabolism in heart failure and inherited cardiomyopathies. Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the UK and worldwide; our aims are to improve understanding of the processes underpinning these diseases and the development of novel therapeutic strategies. In particular, my work focuses on enzymes of the citric acid cycle. I completed my undergraduate study and PhD at the University of Sydney. My PhD project investigated the role of genetic modifiers of cardiac hypertrophy in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and Friedreich ataxia.
