Jane Francis

Head of Imaging Applications

I am the chief technologist (radiographer) and head of imaging applications in the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research, joining the unit in 2002.

I am an experienced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) technologist with more than 20 years' experience in both clinical and research imaging techniques. Prior to coming to Oxford I worked at The Royal Brompton Hospital in London, doing a similar role. The unit here in OCMR currently comprises of a 1.5T Siemens AvantoFit, a 3T Tim Trio and 3T Prisma with a 25% share in a cardiac enabled 7T making my role unique in the UK.

I am the founder member of the technologists section of the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) and was the committee chair 2004-2006 and have been an invited speaker at the annual scientific sessions on multiple occasions. I was also a member of the policy board for The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) Section for Magnetic Resonance Technologists (SMRT) and chair of the global relations committee. I have been asked to give specialist advice on  the imaging aspect of significant  major research projects  including  UK Biobank  and HCMR Novel Predictors of Outcome in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. I am passionate about radiographer education and have been fortunate to teach both here in the UK and abroad, including Italy, Malta and South Africa. I am the author/co-author of >100 peer review papers and >200 abstracts presented at scientific meetings, nationally and internationally  and have won prizes as a technologist for submitted work in the field of CMR.
