Visiting Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellow
I completed my PhD in August 2015 at the Department of Clinical Examination and Cardiology, Faculty of Medicine, Oita University, Japan, researching the role of the spleen in pressure overload-induced atrial fibrillation, and the role of mast cell in hyperglycemia-induced atrial fibrillation (AF).I also reported on the importance of IL-10 in obesity or diabetes-related AF using a mouse model.
I have since worked as a subspecialist in the field of arrhythmia and electrophysiology. During the last two years, I have worked on many cases of catheter ablation for many kinds of arrhythmias and surgery of cardiac implantable electrophysiological devices.
I am also interested in epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) as pathogenesis of AF substrate, and in end 2017, I received a grant from the Japanese Heart Rhythm Society that allowed me to join Professor Charalambos Antoniades group in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Radcliffe Department of Medicine.
My project here is to investigate the effect of anti-diabetic drug on myocardial redox state in humans and the role of EAT. The project will include the quantification of myocardial oxidative stress and the individual sources of free radicals in myocardial biopsies obtained from patients undergoing cardiac surgery. I would also like to contribute to the group by using the knowledge obtained from my medical clinical experience.
