  • Consultant Physician

Paul Leeson is Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford, Research Fellow at Wolfson College and Head of the Oxford Cardiovascular Clinical Research Facility. He heads the Preventive Cardiology Research Group, which aims to improve how we identify and prevent heart disease in young people. The group uses cardiac and vascular imaging, in conjunction with laboratory-based studies, to characterise early patho-physiological changes that predispose to cardiovascular diseases, such as, hypertension. There is a particular focus on the long term impact of pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia and preterm birth, on both mother and child. The group is based in the Oxford Cardiovascular Clinical Research Facility where work is also in progress to improve the technologies, such as echocardiography, used to identify early heart disease.

In addition, he is National Cardiology Lead for the NIHR Thames Valley and South Midlands Local Clinical Research Network and sits on committees for both the European Association of Preventive Cardiology and British and Irish Hypertension Society.
