DPhil Organic Chemistry

Postdoctoral Researcher

I am a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Akane Kawamura's group, and am based at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics. My research interests lie in the field of chemical biology, and I am currently working on developing cyclic peptide inhibitors for enzymes involved in regulating epigenetic modifications, specifically, histone lysine demethylases (KDMs). Changes in expression and mutations in these enzymes are implicated in a wide range of diseases from cardiovascular disease, to dementia and cancer.

Building upon my DPhil work on unnatural amino acids (UAAs), I am using an mRNA display platform developed by the Kawamura group, in collaboration with the Suga group at the University of Tokyo, to generate highly specific UAA-incorporated intra-subfamily specific cyclic peptide inhibitors towards KDM enzymes, which would be a crucial step toward the development of novel drugs.
