The RDM Graduate Studies Committee is proud to introduce the RDM Award for Excellent Supervision. Principal Investigators across the Radcliffe Department of Medicine are nurturing and training the next generation of scientists and we want to celebrate fantastic examples of supervision and mentoring.
Researchers from OCDEM recently attended the \u2018Innovators in Diabetes\u2019 programme \u2013 a Diabetes UK-supported scheme now in its 10th year. The programme aims to create a vibrant diabetes research network and facilitate knowledge exchange. Dr Kerry McLaughlin, postdoctoral researcher in OCDEM and programme alumni, tells us more about the day.
Congratulations to Professor Leanne Hodson, Associate Professor of Diabetes and Metabolism, who has been awarded the prestigious Cuthbertson Award from the Nutrition Society. The Cuthbertson Award has been awarded annually since 1990 as a tribute Sir David Cuthbertson. It is awarded to scientists for excellence in Clinical Nutrition and/or Metabolism research providing an evidence base for clinical practice.
The Curiosity Carnival rolled into town on 29 September for a festival of all things research. Over 30 researchers from across RDM took part in the largest public engagement event Oxford has ever staged.
Congratulations to Prof Marella de Bruijn (Professor of Developmental Haematopoiesis), Prof Deborah Gill (Professor of Gene Medicine) and Prof Charalambos Antoniades (Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine) who were all awarded the title of full professor in the recent Recognition of Distinction Exercise.
Staff across RDM have been recognised in the Medical Sciences Division\u2019s Teaching Excellence Awards 2017. The Teaching Excellence Awards scheme recognises and rewards excellence in teaching, the organisation and development of teaching, and support for teaching and learning, within a research-intensive environment.
Congratulations to Dr Lisa Ayers, who has been awarded a Chief Scientific Officer\u2019s (CSO) WISE Fellowship. Now in its second year, the Chief Scientific Officer's WISE Fellowship is a unique opportunity for mid-career female healthcare scientists to gain invaluable leadership experience. Successful applicants will be selected based on both their potential to make a difference in their current and future roles in addition to their commitment to inspire the next generation of healthcare scientists.

Congratulations to Dr Beth Psaila, who has won a prestigious Fellowship at the L\u2019Or\u00e9al-UNESCO UK and Ireland For Women In Science awards. She was one of five scientists to receive the highly competitive award.
The American Society of Hematology (ASH) and the European Hematology Association (EHA) have announced the names of 20 early-career hematologists who will participate in the joint 2017 Translational Research Training in Hematology (TRTH) program. These include Dr Alice Giustacchini (WIMM-NDCLS, Mead/Jacobsen Group) and Dr Lynn Quek (WIMM-NDCLS, Vyas Group). Congratulations to Alice and Lynn for being invited to take part in this prestigious scheme.
At the Diabetes UK Conference which was held last week in Manchester Professor Anna Gloyn took part in a special session celebrating Diabetes UK funded fellows past and present.
RDM researchers are taking part in the Oxford International Women\u2019s Festival (24-11 March), which celebrates \u2018Women Thinking Big in the Arts, Science, Politics and Education\u2019.
Dr Bob Mahoney, Graduate Studies Administrator, has recently returned from Shared Parental Leave (SPL). The SPL statutory scheme enables eligible parents, if they so wish, to share a period of leave and pay in the 52 weeks immediately following the birth or adoption of their child.
