Primary human dermal fibroblasts were treated with a macromolecular crowder (Ficoll 400) that condenses extracellular matrix (ECM) for a more accurate physiological representation. Fibrillar collagen (green) and other ECM proteins may be quantified using high-throughput imaging system for the identification of potential drug target or gene pathway involved in collagen metabolism and fibrosis.
