\n \n \n \nCongratulations to Professor Jan Rehwinkel, a group leader in the MRC Human Immunology Unit, who was named last week as one of 25 new EMBO Young Investigators. He joins a network of 74 current and 382 past Young Investigators who represent some of the best young group leaders in the life sciences in Europe and beyond.

\n \n \n \nCongratulations to Prof Mark McCarthy who has won the 2016 Jacob\u00e6us Prize, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of type 2 diabetes genetics. Prof McCarthy has played a central role in the discovery of type 2 diabetes \u2018risk genes\u2019 \u2013 both as a basic researcher and as a leading figure in international consortia.

\n \n \n \nDr Linford Briant, a postdoc with Prof Patrik Rorsman, has secured a prestigious Sir Henry Wellcome Fellowship. He\u2019ll use pharmacological, electrophysiological and computational techniques to take a closer look at glucagon secretion by alpha-cells \u2014 and how it goes awry in type-2 diabetes.
