Founded in 2015 to mark the 50th anniversity of the founding of the British Society for Cell Biology, the award recognises outstanding early career biologists.

Dr Kusumbe, who leads the Tissue and Tumor Microenvironments Group at the MRC Human Immunology Unit, was recorgnised for her work on vascular regulation of bone aging and the role of vasculature in age-related diseases such as arthritis. The society highlighted her mentorship, outreach and action to embed lab sustainability in her research group.
