There are large number of resources available to support career and personal development. Here, we outline some of the options open to you during your time in Oxford.

Oxford Learning Institute

The Oxford Learning Institute provides courses for University and College staff and students. They have excellent developmental programs for Academic leaders, Administrators and Managers, Principle Investigators & DPhil supervisors, Lecturers/teaching staff, Research Staff, Support Staff, Women and courses designed to help you Manage Yourself.

IT Services

IT Services (formerly called OUCS) offer over 200 classroom based and over 1000 online IT courses that can help you with your studies, research and future careers. A full course catalogue is available. Any IT Learning Programme course can be booked by all current members of Oxford University.

Medical Sciences Skills Training

The Medical Sciences Division offer training to all Graduate Research Students and Research Staff on a wide range of subjects from specific technical skills such as light microscopy through to ethics in international research.

Careers Service

The University Careers Service has courses for research staff and students (searchable through the CareerConnect pages) as well as many other talks and workshops. They also run many different events that can be accessed by exploring their website.

Springboard and Navigator

The Springboard and Navigator courses are designed specifically for women and men respectively. Both schemes aim to help you identify and develop your career aspirations so that you can achieve your full potential both in work and at home.

Ad Feminam Mentoring Programme

Ad Feminam mentoring is intended to encourage women to explore their leadership potential within academic life, or within an administrative career, for example as leaders of departments and divisions, or in university governance. The scheme is expected both to benefit individual mentees and to contribute to culture change within the University. Mentees will have demonstrated an aptitude or potential for leadership and will normally meet one of the following criteria:

  • An academic having completed her first five-year term of office; 
  • A researcher holding a fellowship of at least five years duration; 
  • An administrator graded 9 or above having at least five years' service.

Pivot

Pivot is a mentoring scheme for any member of staff at the University who identifies as Black and minority ethnic (BME). People have different reasons for choosing to have a mentor, so rather than try to cover them all within one scheme Pivot offers two different pathways to make sure everyone gets the support that they are looking for.

Vitae

Vitae is dedicated to realising the potential of researchers through transforming their professional and career development and have a range of resources to do this. To get access to these courses you will need to register with Vitae using your Oxford email address.

Public Engagement with Research

The University have produced a hub of public engagement with research resources, including training opportunities

Oxford University Language Centre

The Oxford University Language Centre offers three main programmes of language courses, Languages for Study and Research (LASR), the Oxford Programme in Languages (OPAL) and English for Academic Studies (EAS).

Work Learn Develop

Work Learn Develop is a new programme of fully funded professional training and development opportunities for University staff. The Work Learn Develop training courses cover a wide range of skill areas that are core to University administration as well as covering technical and niche skills areas. All of the courses are accredited and offer professional, job-related qualifications.
