OCDEM History

The Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM) comprises diverse groups of scientists, clinicians and health care workers in relevant fields of expertise. We are located in a purpose built clinical and research building, which was funded by the NHS, University of Oxford, Novo Nordisk and Takeda.

Since its formation in 1999, OCDEM representatives have been moving towards a more collaborative approach on research and clinical projects, helping to build a cohesive corporate identity. Our current facility is based at the Churchill Hospital site in Headington, Oxford and our research, teaching and clinical care relocated here in March 2003.

Diabetes Trials Unit

The Diabetes Trials Unit (DTU) was founded by Professor Rury Holman in 1985 to help identify improved methods to diagnose, monitor and treat people with diabetes, cardiometabolic or related disorders. The DTU was a founding member of OCDEM, and  moved to the Churchill Hospital site in March 2003. It will close in January 2027.
