Dr Nikolaos Nikolaou won the prize for the Best Metabolism and Obesity Oral Communication Prize at the 2019 British Endocrinology Society conference.

This is the second award win for Dr Nikolaou this year, who won the prize at the conference organised by the Society for Endocrinology, for a talk entitled "’5β-reductase (AKR1D1) is downregulated in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and protects against hepatocellular carcinoma cell proliferation in vitro." 

These prizes are awarded to to early career endocrinologist attendees only, providing recognition of their vital contribution to endocrine research. Along with the prize plaque, prize winners also receive a £300 cash prize. 

Dr Nikolaou's talk was judged to be the top presentation in the 'Metabolism and Obesity' category.
