This award of £281k is for upgrades to two existing super-resolution STED microscopes that form part of the Wolfson Imaging Centre Oxford in the WIMM. The upgrades will enable users to take super-resolved images in three dimensions rather than two and will enable multi-colour detection. This represents a superb advance for researchers, in the questions that can now be addressed by STED microscopy. One of the two microscopes to be upgraded is located in a dedicated Containment Level 3 room, which will allow the study of highly infectious pathogens, such as HIV in living cells. The unique upgraded systems will ensure that Oxford and UK researchers have access to the latest super-resolution imaging technology. Please contact Christian Eggeling or Christoffer Lagerholm if you are interested in using these new technologies.
