In accordance with University Safety Policy S4/10, "Working Safely with Electricity", portable electrical appliances must be regularly inspected for safety.

In-service visual inspection and testing, commonly known as Portable Appliance Testing (PAT), therefore plays an essential part in ensuring that the wide variety of equipment used within a range of work environments is maintained in a safe condition.

An external company is employed to carry out the annual PAT routine within OCDEM.

Any new electrical equipment brought into the Department only needs to undergo a visual safety inspection before being brought into the annual testing regime.

OCDEM has one trained PAT staff, Matt Neville, to whom any queries concerning PAT should be directed.

Next PAT visit April 2017.
