About THE COLLEGE
St Catherine's College is the University of Oxford’s newest college and also one of the largest. It developed out of the St Catherine's Society, and was founded in 1962.
The College admits both undergraduates and graduates, and offers a wide range of subjects with a roughly even split between science and arts. Its modern buildings and restful, open spaces give the College a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Situated at the end of Manor Road off St Cross Road, and surrounded by parks and water, St Catherine's College is close to University faculties and libraries.
St Catherine's traces its descent from the Scholares Non Ascripti, or Delegacy of Non-Collegiate Students, founded by Statute on 11th June, 1868. This was established as part of an expansion of the University so that students would be able to gain an Oxford education without the costs of college membership. During the academic year 2018/2019, the College will therefore be celebrating its 150th Anniversary, in recognition of these origins.
The gardens
The architect of St. Catherine's, Arne Jacobsen, designed the college both to reflect elements of a traditional Oxford college and to be an entirely modern solution to the challenge of creating an integrated environment which would be both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
At the heart of the College lies a rectangular quad, its sides formed by student rooms built in the conventional Oxford 'staircase' format, its ends consisting of the Dining Hall and Library...

Directions to the venue
COACHES to/from AIRPORTS
There are two frequent 24-hour direct services between Oxford and London, the X90 and the Oxford Tube. For information on coaches from airports and major cities, see also National Express. Alternatively, from London Heathrow and Gatwick airports, you can take The Airline coach service.
The central coach station is at Gloucester Green in the city centre. Please use Google Maps or our interactive map to find your way from the station to the College. St Catherine's is on the edge of the City Centre and we recommend that visitors arriving at the bus or train station take a taxi to the College, especially if they are bringing luggage. Walking from the City Centre to St Catherine's will take between 15 and 20 minutes or from the train station around 25-30 minutes.
RAIL SERVICES
Trains run at least once an hour between London and Oxford, and twice an hour during peak times. You can get to Oxford by train from Heathrow via London, and from Gatwick via Reading. From London Stansted airport, take the Stansted Express train service to Liverpool Street and then take the tube to either Paddington or Marylebone for direct trains to Oxford: London Paddington serves Oxford station, London Marylebone serves Oxford and Oxford Parkway stations. PARKING IN OXFORD
Many Oxford streets are closed to traffic and parking is severely limited. We encourage you to use the five Park and Ride bus services. Please refer to Oxfordshire County Council's up-to-date traffic information for details of all local road works and any disruptions. For information on car parks, on-street parking and costs of parking, see Oxfordshire County Council's website. Note that there is no parking at St. Catherine‘s college.
PARK&RIDE
There are five Park and Ride sites, which serve Oxford City Centre. The Oxford Bus Company has detailed information on Park and Ride locations, timetables and fares.
- Oxford Parkway (north). For satnav use OX2 8HA. Take the 500 bus to and from the city centre.
- Pear Tree (north). For satnav use OX2 8JD. Take the 300 bus to and from the city centre.
- Redbridge (south). For satnav use OX1 4XG. Take the 300 bus to and from the city centre.
- Thornhill (east). For satnav use OX3 8DP. Take the 400 bus to and from the city centre.
- Seacourt (west). For satnav use OX2 0HP. Take the 400 bus to and from the city centre.
Please note that Thornhill and Seacourt are often full, particularly on University Open Days. We recommend that drivers coming from the east (including London), the south and the west use the Redbridge Park and Ride, while drivers arriving from the north can choose between Pear Tree and Oxford Parkway.
