Structure and delivery

The OxVALVE Study is operating as a joint project between primary and secondary care. Although the study team are based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, recruitment and echocardiography takes place in the community.

Invitations to participate in the study are sent to eligible patients from the Practice with which they are registered. Appointments for a scan are also booked through the Practice, as this is where they will take place. At this visit, a blood sample is also taken for testing and storage for future ethically approved studies.

Those participants who are identified as having some form of valve pathology are invited for a further, more detailed echocardiogram (including 3D images), at the John Radcliffe Hospital or Horton General Hospital.
