We are delighted to announce that researchers in RDM have been selected to take part in the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition – a prestigious science festival that showcases the best of UK research.

Our stand – DNA Origami: How do you fold a genome? – will use a mixture of virtual reality and interactive games to illustrate the importance of DNA folding and gene regulation for human health. Some of you had a chance to test out our virtual reality software at WIMM Day and we will be building on that to give visitors a 3D tour of the genome.

It’s going to be huge amounts of fun and we need lots of volunteers across the week (3-9 July 2017) to help inspire the public about our work – from school children through to policy makers. You don’t need to be working in the field of computational biology or genomics to take part; you just need an enthusiasm for science!

Interested in getting involved?

There will be a workshop on 4th May, 1.30pm - 4.30pm to take all volunteers through our key messages, the background research and hints and tips for engaging different audiences. You’ll also have a chance to try out the activities we have planned.  To come to the workshop please register by emailing Nicki Gray.

Please complete the Doodle Poll by 14 April 2017, indicating your availability between 3 and 9 July but please note that you can still decide if you want to take part after the briefing in May so completing the doodle poll does not commit you to being a volunteer but allows us to start planning.

The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition takes place in central London and is the highlight of the public engagement calendar. As well as being lots of fun, you’ll get the opportunity to meet new people, improve your communication skills and contribute to the largest public engagement event the Institute has taken part in. We’d be hugely grateful for your time to help make this an amazing event.
